ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Live discussions at 'Vietnam' screening

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Stanley Kubrick's harrowing cinematic mind-trip, "Full Metal Jacket," isn't on the list. But the Honolulu Academy of Arts' 10-day film series "Re-Viewing Vietnam: Film Representations of the Vietnam War" still offers a worthwhile exploration of several films about the war.

Scholars, Vietnam veterans and others present each film and offer discourse. Free screenings continue daily through Thursday.

Today's slate features 1968's "The Green Berets" at 4 p.m. and 1978's "Go Tell The Spartans" at 7:30 p.m. Screening Saturday are 1978's "Coming Home" at 1 p.m. and 1979/2001's "Apocalypse Now: Redux" at 4 p.m. At the Doris Duke Theatre. 532-8768.

FINAL WORD

"Once people know that animals are electrocuted, drowned, bludgeoned to death and sometimes skinned alive, they realize fur is disgusting, and that there's nothing luxurious or fashionable about it."
