'Potter' divides movie critics

 •  Fourth Potter film may be best one yet

Another blockbuster or a bust? The nation's movie critics have had their say. Here are a couple of excerpts:

  • Christy Lemire, Associated Press: "Director Mike Newell has crafted a film full of images that are vast and wondrous but strangely detached and obviously artificial, similar to the look of the 'Lord of the Rings' movies. You can appreciate the enormity of the visuals, but they seem so distant, it's difficult to feel engaged by them. But with Newell at the helm ... 'Goblet of Fire' seems more in touch with the innate Britishness of Rowling's books, both in its sense of humor and in its boarding-school setting."

  • Roger Moore, Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel: "Darned if this Harry Potter franchise isn't sharpening, expanding, growing into itself as it progresses. ... 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' has a couple of those great out-of-body popcorn-movie moments that popcorn movies have been missing this year. It's better acted, more beautiful, with the most dazzling effects yet, and lighter on its feet when it needs to be, more brooding and depressing when that's called for.
