Fujikawa advances, Kono ousted in AJGA tourney

Moanalua Middle School eighth-grader Tadd Fujikawa will play on, while Punahou School sophomore Stephanie Kono was ousted yesterday at the AJGA Polo Junior Golf Classic at Sea Island, Ga.
In the boys' division at the Sea Island Golf Club's Seasider Course, Fujikawa, seeded 23rd, defeated No. 10 Arnold Vongvanij, of Bradenton , Fla., 6 and 5, in the first round, then ousted No. 7 Spencer Cole, of Greer, S.C., 1-up in the round of 16s. He will play Rory Hie, of Lakewood, Calif. in today's quarterfinals.
Hie, seeded 30th, upset No. 2 Rickie Fowler, of Muretta, Calif., 2 and 1, in the first round, then beat No. 15 Mu Hu, of China, 5 and 4, in the round of 16s.
Kono, the fourth seed in the girls division being played at the Plantation Course, beat No. 23 Jenny Kim, of Los Angeles, 3 and 2, but fell to No. 20 Angela Oh, of Maple Shade, N.J., 2 and 1, in the round of 16s.
In-Kyung Kim, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., the girls' top seed, lost in the round of 16s to No. 16 Marika Lendl, of Bradenton, Fla., 1-up on the 21st hole.
