No arrests made in alleged assault

Police were continuing their investigation, but had made no arrests yesterday in the case of an 11-year-old girl who said she was sexually assaulted Tuesday night at a downtown park.

The girl said she was heading home from a school function and was walking through Beretania Community Park on 'A'ala Street behind the Kukui Gardens housing complex about 7:45 p.m. when a group of boys approached. The girl said they directed her to the playground area where she was assaulted by several of the boys.

She told police she knew the assailants from school and that one of the boys, who punched her, is 15.

Police had no new information yesterday about the case.


EAST HONOLULU

EVENTS TO BENEFIT KALANI HIGH

Two events are scheduled for early December to benefit Kalani High School.

For Project Graduation classes of 2006 and 2007, the annual Christmas tree sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 4 at the school, which is at 4680 Kalaniana'ole Highway.

The second event will be Buck$ for Book$, hosted by Barnes & Noble of Kahala Mall, which is holding a book fair next Friday through Dec. 4 to support the Kalani High School Library. Fifteen percent of all purchases of books, CDs, DVDs and other gift items, except gift cards and food, will be donated to the library fund. KAPOLEI

SEXUAL ASSAULT REPORTED AT PARK

A 19-year-old 'Ewa Beach woman reported being sexually assaulted Wednesday evening at Kapolei Park.

She told police she was using the restroom at about 5:30 p.m. when she was hit from behind and assaulted. Police have no description of the assailant.

The park is across the street from the Kapolei police station.


MAUI

MAN DROWNS NEAR MAKENA

Police reported a drowning yesterday at Oneuli Beach in Makena. They said the victim was a man in his 70s. No other information was available at press time.


WAIPAHU

MAN HIT BY CAR, CRITICALLY INJURED

Police said a man in his mid-20s was hit by a car last night while walking along Old Farrington Highway near the Aloun Farms area west of Waipahu.

Emergency response workers said the man was hit by a 2002 Hyundai Sonata and he was carried for about 50 yards on the car's hood before the driver managed to stop.

The injured man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition after the 9:20 p.m. accident.
