'Nutcracker' opens on Maui, with ballet star Amanda Schull as fairy

Folks on the Valley Isle will get the first look at Ballet Hawaii's "Nutcracker," starring the San Francisco Ballet's Amanda Schull as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Joan Boada as her Cavalier Prince.
The holiday tale, with classic music by Tchai-kovsky and staging by Pamela Taylor-Tongg, follows a girl whose dreams take her to a land of enchantment. "Nutcracker" plays on O'ahu next month.
Showtimes are 2 and 7:30 p.m. today and 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theatre. Admission is $20, $25, $35 general; $10 discount for kids 12 and younger. (808) 242-7469, www.mauiarts.org.
