Head for the North Shore's Waimea Valley Audubon Center for today's plant sale. There you'll find:

  • Native Hawaiian plants that are especially suited to North Shore coastal habitats. Dennis Kim of Native Plant Resource also has advice on landscaping.

  • Tough native ground covers from Hui Ku Maoli Ola, which is well known for stream and wetland restoration in Waimanalo, and at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i and Kalaeloa.

  • Native Hawaiian ferns from specialist Kay Lynch.

  • Waialua hybrids and a choice of old-fashioned hybrids from hibiscus lady Jill Coryell.

There's much more, too. And you can bring your own specimen of native plant for a show, tell and swap of native Hawaiian plants.

Hours are from 9 a.m. to noon today. Admission and parking are free. 638-9199.
