An unlicensed contractor has been sentenced to a maximum 10-year prison term for pretending to be a licensed contractor and stealing $42,500 from a victim in 2001 and 2002.
Circuit Judge Steven Alm sentenced Henry Leo Kaiser, 48, to the prison term and also ordered him to pay the victim $42,500 in restitution.
Kaiser had been barred by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs in 2001 from engaging in contracting work without a license, but later that year claimed to be a licensed contractor and offered to perform home repairs for the victim, according to the Attorney General's Office.
After the victim paid him $42,500, Kaiser abandoned the job, the office said.
