Pride for the Little League World Series champion West O'ahu baseball team has taken many forms: school assemblies, parades, lei galore and congratulatory banners. But former Hawai'i natives Jonathan and Vivian Hung of Henderson, Nev., took it a step further: They bestowed their first-born with the middle name, Layson — as in Layson "Kaeo" Aliviado, member of the winning 'Ewa Beach team.
"It's (Layson Aliviado's) sportsmanship," said Vivian Hung, 24, formerly of Kahului. "He was the one with spunk on the team. And seeing his smile — that was it."
Vivian gave birth to Samuel Layson Kainalu Hung Aug. 26 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital-Sienna Campus. The Hungs — fans who followed the team since the regional games — were watching the Aug. 28 world championship game in the hospital while signing legal forms for their son when they decided on that middle name.
