Wheelchair tennis tourney on O'ahu

Maui's Beth Arnoult-Ritthaler, the No. 1 American woman in the world rankings, will play in the inaugural International Tennis Federation Hawai'i Pacific Wheelchair Championships, Oct. 12 to 16 at the Central O'ahu Regional Tennis Complex.
Arnoult, ranked 13th overall, recently reached the final of the Jane Hunsaker Memorial Tournament in New York City. She turned pro in 1999 and has represented the United States at the 2001 and 2002 World Cups and on the 2004 U.S. Paralympics Team.
Arnoult ran high school track in Iowa. She was paralyzed from the waist down in 1991 when an all-terrain vehicle she was in flipped over. She took up tennis in 1997.
The ITF Hawai'i Pacific Wheel Chair Tournament is expected to attract top wheelchair athletes from around the world. Run by the Hawai'i Pacific Tennis Foundation, the event is on the ITF Professional Wheelchair circuit and is scheduled the week after the U.S. Open Wheelchair Championships in San Diego, one of the circuit's majors.
Wheelchair tennis is played with the same rules as "regular" tennis, except that players are allowed two bounces.

MIYAJIMA TIED FOR 69TH IN LPGA QUALIFIER
Wailuku's Shayna Miyajima shot a third-round 3-over-par 75 yesterday and was at 7-over 223 heading into the final round of the LPGA Sectional Qualifying Tournament at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Playing at the Palmer Course, Miyajima was tied for 69th place.
The top 30 and ties after today's round advance to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., Nov. 30 to Dec. 4.
Japan's Shinobu Moromizato and Sweden's Louise Stahle are tied for medalist honors at 9-under 207. Moromizato shot a 70, while Stahle carded a 71.
Ai Miyazato, of Japan, fired her second consecutive 66 and is tied for second at 208 with Jessica Lewis, of Bethesda, Md., and Kris Lindstrom, of Richfield, Minn. Lewis shot a 69 and Lindstrom a 70.
