You know linebacker Kila Kamakawiwo'ole had a good game for the University of Hawai'i football team when the Warriors' quarterback said he even got excited watching.
"I was getting excited, enjoying watching him and the defense out there from the sidelines," said Colt Brennan, UH's quarterback. "I was so impressed with the way he played."
Together the two, Kamaka-wiwo'ole and Brennan, not only led UH to its first victory of the season, 24-0 over Idaho, but bookended the Western Athletic Conference player awards as defensive and offensive player of the week, respectively.
Kamakawiwo'ole, a senior from Kaimuki High, was credited with six tackles, including 2 1/2 for losses totalling 13 yards, as UH had its first shutout since Sept. 1999, a streak of 77 games.
"You don't go looking for a shutout," Kamakawiwo'ole said. "You just try to play hard and hope you get the job done."
Brennan, a sophomore, completed 34 of 44 passes for 347 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.
"I'm kind of surprised," Brennan said. "I didn't see this coming. It's a neat honor but there were a lot of other guys out there making plays. I have the numbers because everybody else did (their jobs) so well."
