TARO PATCH HELPERS — The Honokohau Valley Association of Maui is restoring taro patches, with volunteers needed 8-11 a.m. Sundays. Bring water and lunch. Call 573-3250.

BIG ISLE COMPOSTING — Learn how to compost green waste and kitchen scraps at an intermediate/advanced composting class 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the University of Hawai'i Komohana Extension and April 15 at Laakea Community Center; $10 for adults, kids free. To register call (808) 937-2233.

HALEAKALA OVERNIGHTER — The Friends of Haleakala National Park will conduct a service trip Friday to April 10 to remove invasive species, trim weeds and restore nene habitat, with stays at the Paliku and Holua cabins. Call (808) 876-1673.

KANE'OHE WETLAND PROJECT — Volunteers are needed Saturday to help the Sierra Club clear a wetland of mangrove to create habitat for endangered water birds at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i.
