Funeral services for former Honolulu Police Chief Michael Nakamura will be held Wednesday at the Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel.
Nakamura, who died April 1, was 58. He joined the Police Department in 1970 and served as chief from 1990 until his retirement in 1997.
Nakamura joined the Air Force soon after graduating from Farrington High School in 1965.
In addition to his police work, Nakamura was a board member of the Blood Bank of Honolulu, Hawai'i Chapter for Independent Living, and Parents and Children Together. He was an executive member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and was a member of the state Board of Education, National Executive Institute Associates, and Pacific Century Fellows.
Nakamura also served as campaign chairman for Honolulu Prosecutor Peter Carlisle.
Visitation is set for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Services will follow at 6:30 p.m.
