ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Lunch with a side of sculpture

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The Hawai'i State Art Museum's free monthly Artlunch lectures are always interesting, but today's is really good: a talk on art for public spaces by sculptor Sean Browne, whose work is included in the museum's current show "Art in Public Places," on view through Saturday.

Browne, who studied with Isamu Noguchi, creator of "Sky Gate" on Honolulu's municipal grounds, gives his talk at noon in the museum's second-floor Diamond Head Galleries. Don't forget to pack a lunch. 250 S. Hotel St. at Richards Street. 586-9958.

ART'S IN THE HOUSE

Housing is a hot issue in the Islands.

The Contemporary Museum's Catalyst Artist in Residence Maria Elena Gonzalez addresses the topic in the work she's doing here in conjunction with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity.

The Cuban-born, New York-based artist talks about her dual project in Makiki and Waimanalo, at 7 tonight at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Art Auditorium. Free.

FINAL WORD
