Reese Haine comes from a famous volleyball family but said he did not play the sport at the interscholastic level until his sophomore season two years ago.
Today, he is the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's Division II Player of the Year.
Haine, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, helped Mid-Pacific to its second straight state tournament berth.
Haine's late grandfather, Tom, was the 1968 U.S. Olympic Team captain and is enshrined in the Volleyball Hall of Fame. Reese's brother, Clay Stanley, is a U.S. National Team member.
Haine is joined on the ILH DII all-star first team by five players from Maryknoll: outside hitters Tri Bourne and Simeon Ke-Paloma, middle hitter Richard Herring, setter Nick Castello and libero Bryce Wong. Setters Brian McGuiness of University and Jaren Mauricio of MPI round out the first team.
Maryknoll's Shawn Doo was named Coach of the Year.
