Hawai'i-Hilo women beat HPU, 63-51

Sheila Azevedo amassed 17 points and 12 rebounds as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 63-51, yesterday in a women's basketball game at the Lahaina Civic Center on Maui.
Amy Kaaiakamanu added 14 points and Ashley Kualii contributed 10 points and 12 assists for the Vulcans (1-6), who used an 8-0 run to start the game, a 10-1 run to begin the second half and a 9-3 run to end the game in winning for the first time in their inaugural season.
"The intensity level rose when it came to crunch time," Hilo coach Daphne Honma said. "So when push came to shove, our players showed up. The kids basically wanted to win a game and they were more focused. They just played hard and did the things we asked for."
Ashley Jenkins had 17 points and eight rebounds, and Shannon Miyashiro added 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Sea Warriors (0-7).

MANOA POP WARNER WINS CONSOLATION TITLE
The Manoa Paniolos defeated the Worcester (Mass.) Vikings, 28-18, Wednesday to win a consolation title in the junior pee wee Division I of the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
The Paniolos lost their opening round game, 42-12, to the Union Road (N.C.) Jaguars.
The Koloa (Kaua'i) Packers lost in their junior pee wee Division II consolation title game, 18-6, to the West Haven (Conn.) Seahawks on Friday. Capital City (N.C.) Steelers beat Koloa, 20-6, in the opening round.
The junior pee wee division is for ages 8 to 10 (55 to 100 pounds) and 11 (55 to 80 pounds).
