TWO TO SPEAK ON IRAQ-WAR STANCE

Army 1st Lt. Ehren Watada, who faces a court-martial for his challenge to the war in Iraq, and Ann Wright, a retired Army colonel who resigned from the U.S. Foreign Service in 2003 to protest the war, will share the stage tonight at the Church of the Crossroads.

WAIKIKI

LIFEGUARDS BUSY AIDING SWIMMERS

City lifeguards in Waikiki made plenty of rescues Sunday and yesterday because of unseasonal high winter surf on O'ahu's south shore.

Bryan Cheplic, City Emergency Services spokesman, said lifeguards recorded three rescues and 20 assists Sunday while Ocean Safety Rescue 1 lifeguards on jet-powered watercraft had 50 assists, of which 37 were participants in the annual Hawaiian Christmas Looong Distance Invitational Roughwater Swim event.

Lifeguards made nine rescues yesterday while Ocean Safety Rescue 1 had 10 assists, according to Cheplic.

Correction: Lifeguards assisted 37 participants of the Hawaiian Christmas Looong Distance Invitational Roughwater Swim on Sunday. A previous version of this story named the event incorrectly.
