Reservations up at Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines said it expects the number of passenger reservations to rise during the Dec. 28 to Jan. 8 New Year's holiday season.

The air carrier said New Year JAL Group international reservations are up 4 percent from the same period last year.

The company said it expects to operate an additional 92 flights to resort destinations such as Hawai'i, Guam and Palau.


HORIZON BOARD ADDS MINETA

Horizon Lines Inc., the No. 2 shipping line for cargo to Hawai'i, said former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta is joining its board of directors in January.

Mineta fills a vacancy created when retired Navy Adm. James Holloway announced he was leaving the board at the end of the month.


AIRLINE BUYS THREE BOEING 767 JETS

Hawaiian Holdings Inc., parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, said it finalized the purchase of three Boeing 767 jets leased from AWAS Aviation Services Inc. The company said it raised $126 million in floating-rate debt financing from CIT Leasing Corp. to help finance the purchase.


MENTO ON BOARD AT 'AIEA COMPANY

Hawaii Biotech Inc., an 'Aiea-based company, said Steven Mento has joined its board of directors.

Mento's experience includes serving as president and chief executive officer of Idun Pharmaceuticals Inc. and as president of Chiron Viagene Inc.
