  • Local farmers and ranchers have until tomorrow to apply for U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans for economic losses from Honolulu and Kaua'i rain and flooding Feb. 20 to March 26 this year. Small businesses may qualify for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $1.5 million to meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred — eligibility for these working capital loans is based on financial impact of the disaster, not actual property disaster. Small, non-farm businesses in Honolulu and Kaua'i counties are eligible to apply for other low-interest disaster loans from the SBA. • Hawai'i-developed technologies — as well as job recruitment opportunities therein — will be highlighted at the High Technology Development Corp.'s (HTDC) seventh annual HOLIDAY SCIENCE AND TECH FAIR. The event, open to the public, is scheduled 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i, Manoa Grand Ballroom. This year's event will showcase more than 20 companies from varying high-tech sectors, including biosciences; information technology; earth sciences; defense and dual-use technology; and energy innovations. Included among local participants this year are the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Lockheed and the Institute for Astronomy, all hoping to recruit potential employees or interns. HTDC is a state agency established in 1983 to encourage development and growth of Hawai'i's commercial high technology industry, and related revenue and job creation. Information: Sandy Park, 539-3794 or www.htdc.org.
