ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Studio 6 jazz night turns 9

Advertiser Staff and News Services

If it seems as if you can find live post-sunset jazz all over town these days, well, it's because you sort of can. But if you haven't yet checked out Studio 6, you've missed the grandaddy of all Honolulu jazz nights. The weekly jazz session — held in a thrift-store funky, living-room-ish studio in the Musicians Association of Hawaii Building — celebrates its ninth birthday tonight at 8. Playing are Studio 6 founder/pianist Rich Crandall and the Studio 6 Jazztet. 949 Kapi'olani Blvd., second floor. 596-2905.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LI HING MUI

Here's the latest local-style pun product just in time for Feb. 14 — three li hing mui in a little packet that reads "Hope to see moi of you — Valentine's or any day!" The clever memento, from the fertile imagination of Melons Fashions designer Suzi Iizaki, has fewer calories than chocolates and costs less than a dozen roses. Plus it works for everyone from teachers and fellow students to friends and relatives. Available exclusively at VUE Hawaii (735-8774) in the Kahala Mall, $2.99 per package or $6.99 for three. There's a limited supply, but orders may be taken for larger quantities.
