ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Designer threads on parade

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Looking for designer bargains? Check out Central Union Church Thrift Shop's Spring Fashion Show, 6 to 9 p.m. today at the parish hall. Runway threads include Tommy Bahama and Ralph Lauren for men, and Jessica McClintock and St. John for women — all for sale after the show. Fine linens also are available. Proceeds go to the thrift shop's outreach programs that include furniture donations for needy families and college scholarships. The free event includes a potluck supper (dessert and beverage provided), silent auction and music by Puamana. And yes, the clothes are new. For details: 440-3055.

AUTHOR WILL DISCUSS POWER OF EMOTIONS

What happens when you tape onto a jar of water a piece of paper bearing the words "You make me sick, I will kill you"? According to Masaru Emoto, who freezes the water then photographs the magnified crystals, the H2O responds — badly. The crystals look like cancerous blobs, top right. But tape "thank you" on the jar and you get happy snowflake shapes, bottom left. Emoto, author of the new book "Love Thyself" (Hay House, $17.95), speaks about the healing power of emotions such as love at 7:30 tonight at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i. Tickets $30 at the door, $25 advance, call (808) 875-8820.

FINAL WORD

"It's not 'Survivor.' They didn't kick me off. I go back to Hawai'i and hang out with all of them. And I still watch the show. Though, to be honest, I have no idea where (the plots) are coming from."
