LEI QUEEN
MAYDAY FOR LEI DAY ...
Do you have a way with stringing flowers? Tomorrow is the postmark deadline to send in applications for Lei Queen for the big May 1 Lei Day celebraton. Each year, the title is granted to a woman in one of three rotating age groups. Last year Flo Fernandez, right, won the Na Kupunahine category. This year the title is open to Na Wahine 'Opio, women age 18 to 30 who have some lei-making and hula experience. The first lei queen — Nina Bowman — was crowned in 1928. For an application, visit www.co.honolulu.hi.us/parks/programs or call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 692-5118
FINAL WORD
