TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Four Kings" debut, 7:30 p.m., NBC. At first glance, this is just a standard situation comedy, quick, slick and full of jokes. Still, it's done fairly well. It provides some fun as it helps NBC rebuild its Thursday comedy block. The key here is that the pilot is produced and written by David Kohan and Max Mutchnik, the "Will & Grace" producers. They have a sharp ear for quick, funny lines — and an occasional habit of overdoing it. But this time, there are moments of character insight, alongside the goofiness. Seth Green offers the darker comedy side as the anti-social Barry, with Josh Cooke as the sturdy Ben. Somewhere between are Shane McRae and Todd Grinnell, as Bobby and Jason. Friends since boyhood, these guys now have a chance to share the sprawling apartment Ben inherited. Complicating things is Ben's girlfriend, played by Kiele Sanchez. The story keeps us watching and helps NBC try a comedy comeback.
OF NOTE
"Dancing With the Stars," 7 p.m., ABC. After scoring big in the summer, this competition show is ready to try again. Some summer viewers liked the elegance of John O'Hurley. This time, there's George Hamilton. Some liked the lusty exuberance of Kelly Monaco. They might take to Lisa Rinna or Tia Carrere or Giselle Fernandez. There's a sports great (retired football star Jerry Rice), plus Drew Lachey, Kenny Mayne, Tatum O'Neal and Master P. Each is paired with a professional, dancing for votes from judges and viewers.
"The Hot Chick" (2002), 7 p.m., Fox. Rob Schneider and Rachel McAdams magically trade bodies, turning him into the hot chick.
"Will & Grace," 7 p.m., NBC. This show moves a half-hour earlier, with "Joey" on the shelf until after the Winter Olympics. Tonight, Grace is excited about going to a "Sound of Music" sing-along, in costume. Then things go terribly wrong. Taye Diggs — who is, among other things, part of the superb "Rent" cast — guest stars.
"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. A hairy man has been killed by a silver bullet.
"My Name is Earl," 8 p.m., NBC. This is the new "Earl" night. Joy is bitter because her kids are rejected by Right Choice Ranch, a place for troubled kids. It's all the fault of her ex-husband Earl. Now he must make amends.
"The Office," 8:30 p.m., NBC. Michael plans a company cruise on a boat, where he can lecture on leadership. His staff would rather listen to the boat's captain. Also, there's a key moment between Jim and Pam.
"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. Abby still hasn't decided if she's ready for pregnancy. Meanwhile, Neela counsels a pregnant teen. Also, things are starting to cave in on Clemente.
"Without a Trace," 9 p.m., CBS. A respected paramedic has disappeared.
