A 53-year-old Wailua Homesteads man who set out for a day hike Wednesday ended up on Kaua'i's Mount Wai'ale'ale and was rescued yesterday morning by a Coast Guard helicopter.
David O'Quinn was dehydrated and suffered cuts and bruises, and was taken by ambulance to Wilcox Hospital. He had planned to hike Loop Road in Wailua Homesteads but took a wrong turn, became disoriented and ended up on Mount Wai'ale'ale, Kaua'i fire officials said.
