BYUH falls short at Grand Canyon, 81-68

Ryan Nelson scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Grand Canyon beat Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 81-68, last night at Phoenix in a men's basketball game.

Austin Smylie scored 22 points and had seven rebounds for the Seasiders (7-6).

Grand Canyon (14-3) made 27 of 32 free throws and the Seasiders made 11 of 17.

ILH SPORTS ON KUMU

All-Sports Hawai'i will broadcast Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys' basketball and softball on KUMU 1500 AM this season.

Tomorrow's softball game between Pac-Five and Mid-Pacific will begin at 3:40 p.m. Friday's Iolani-Maryknoll softball game will begin at 3:40 p.m., followed by a Maryknoll-Saint Louis basketball contest.

The company also announced its plans to broadcast baseball and girls' basketball during the spring season.


SWIMMING

UH'S ATKINS HONORED

The University of Hawai'i's Bache Atkins has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Atkins, a junior from Mermaid Beach, Australia, won the 500 freestyle (4:57.46) and 1,000 freestyle (10:10.34) against San Diego State last week.

FUNDRAISER



KAMEHAMEHA SOCCER

The Kamehameha Schools boys soccer team is holding a fundraiser Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kamehameha Bus Terminal, next to Kam Bowl in Kalihi.

There will be a $5 donation for a car wash; food and drinks and miscellaneous items will be for sale.

Proceeds will go toward travel for the team and an awards banquet.
