FOOTBALL

SOMERA TO WEBER STATE

Weber State's pipeline to Maui continues to flow.

Baldwin senior cornerback Jensen Somera has accepted a football scholarship offer from the NCAA Division I-AA program in Ogden, Utah, Bears coach Jimmy Morimoto said.

Earlier, Lahainaluna defensive lineman Peni Fiuagaihetau verbally committed to Weber State.

Somera, who is listed at 5 feet 10 and 158 pounds, was a Maui Interscholastic League first-team all-star and an Advertiser third-team all-state selection.

"He's very fast," Morimoto said. "That's something you can't teach and it's the No. 1 reason that will take him to the next level, and his football knowledge."

Somera ran the 100 meters in 11.51 seconds at last year's state track meet.

Weber State's defensive line coach is Baldwin alumnus and former coach Chad Kauha'aha'a.
