Honolulu City and County Employees Federal Credit Union Operations Supervisor DEDE GOO was named Hawaii Credit Union League Professional of the Year, in the league's Ke'alohi ("to shine brightly") Awards Program. The 25-year company veteran was honored for her contributions, from smoothing transitions through three data processing system conversions to knowing every individual credit union member. Also honored at the league's annual convention in May were:
Credit Union Volunteer of the Year: FREDERICO ASUNCION, for his volunteer service as board member of the Maui County Employees Federal Credit Union, Wailuku, Maui; president of the league's Valley Isle Chapter; and chairman of the overall Hawaii Credit Union League.
Credit Union Employee of the Year: PAULINE TIU, a 15-year veteran of the Maui Federal Credit Union, Kahului, Maui.
The Hawaii Credit Union League is a trade association for 97 credit unions statewide and in Guam, with combined assets of more than $6.6 billion, and more than 750,000 members.
Qualities from compassion, personal attention and quick problem-solving to baby-sitting an abandoned 14-month-old baby have garnered recognition for local hotel concierges in tourist publication Guest Informant's 11th annual Aloha Spirit Awards:
O'ahu's Best Concierge: SUSAN KOKI of the Halekulani, including for efforts on behalf of an elderly couple's final trip to Hawai'i.
Big Island's Best Concierge: LOUIS ZANNI, guest relations concierge at the Fairmont Orchid.
Kaua'i's Best Concierge: LEILANI CABAIS, Princeville Hotel concierge.
Most Creative: Dana Moses: JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa concierge.
Above & Beyond: Mark Omori: Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa, Regency Club, concierge, for his efforts on behalf of the abandoned baby.
Most Humorous Story: Chie Ginama, Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel, front services.
Most Romantic Story: SHERYL NUUANU, KRISTY MURATA and jennifer essig, Outrigger Reef Hotel, Concierge Department, for special attention to a newlywed couple during their stay with the Russian volleyball team.
KD CONSTRUCTION INC., a Honolulu general contracting firm, has become one of only five Hawai'i companies — the first locally owned — to receive Voluntary Protection Programs status, the most prestigious safety standard given by the federal government. The status is conferred by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Organization, for companies whose safety and health management programs meet or exceed safety standards in 58 different criteria. KD Construction's current projects include the $19 million officer housing project at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i, the $16 million Loft@Waikiki condominium, and several local self-store facilities.
Hawaiian Airlines has announced that DAN BURRUSS, the company's senior director of Asia-Pacific business development, has earned the highest individual honor conferred by the Pacific Asia Travel Association. Burruss was named a PATA life member in recognition of two decades of effort developing Asia Pacific's aviation market and longtime PATA board membership, including as chairman, 1999-2000. At Hawaiian, Burruss is responsible for sales and marketing in Asia Pacific and developing new business opportunities within the region. He played a major role in the launch of Hawaiian's nonstop Honolulu-to-Sydney, Australia, service in 2004.
