ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Fireworks and family fun

Advertiser Staff and News Services

By now you should know which large-scale Fourth of July fireworks display is closest to your home, right? Right? So instead, let us tell you about the final day of BayFest 2006 at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i.

Yes, there will be fireworks. And family activities, noon to midnight. But first there's live music: metal from Slug, honky-tonk country from Trick Pony and Southern-fried rock from 38 Special. Did we mention Slug? 254-7679 or www.bayfesthawaii.com.

FREE COOKIE WAITING FOR YA!

In celebration of Independence Day, the Doubletree Alana Waikiki Hotel presents its "Free Cookies on the Fourth" event — complimentary chocolate chip cookies until 11:59 p.m. today — whether or not you're a guest at the hotel.

Just walk in and you'll be welcomed with a warm, freshly baked treat. (There will also be a drive-through cookie pickup at the hotel's porte cochere, so no need to worry about parking.) No purchase is necessary. One cookie per person, while supplies last.

For details, call the hotel at 941-7275.
