Don Akiyama of Made In Hawaii Foods reminds us that mango season is not over, and fresh fruit can be found at the Kapi'olani Community College Saturday farmer's market, in Chinatown and in some stores. Varieties such as Keitt, Manzanilla, Sun Glow, Golden Glow, Haden, Red Blush, Fukuda and Wai'anae Beauty remain in the market, although Keitt has perhaps just another week of production. The growing areas range from Mokuleia to Kihei on Maui, Moloka'i to Wai'anae, he said.

Made in Hawaii also has old-fashioned mango seed and pickled mango, dried pickled mango, dried mango, mango jam and chutney. Remember when we used to have to make all that stuff ourselves? And remember when most of us had free mangoes from our own trees?
