Tadd Fujikawa, Stephanie Kono and Kimberly Kim have been selected to participate in the 2006 Canon Cup, the American Junior Golf Association announced yesterday.

The 17th Canon Cup will be July 31 through Aug. 3 at the Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.

The Canon Cup pits the top 10 boys and top 10 girls from west of the Mississippi against their counterparts from east of the Mississippi. The first eight players from each team were selected based on AJGA rankings of June 30. The final two spots on each team were given to the two highest players not yet named after the Rolex Tournament of Champions.

Fujikawa, who attends Moanalua High School, and Kono, who attends Punahou School, played in the Rolex tournament, as well as the respective U.S. Open championships. Kim, a former Big Island resident now living in Mesa, Ariz., also played in the two events.

PORTER-KING NAMED TO PGA OF AMERICA SPOT

Mary Bea Porter-King, a former LPGA Tour professional who lives in Lihu'e, has been named the next Independent Director of The PGA of America.

Porter-King will be formally sworn in by delegates at The PGA of America's 90th Annual Meeting, Nov. 13 through 19, at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C. Porter-King replaces Leslie Greis of Cambridge, Mass., whose three-year term concludes this fall.

The PGA of America's Board of Directors is composed of the association's president, vice president, secretary, honorary president and 17 directors. The directors are representatives from each of the PGA's 14 districts, two independent directors and a member of the PGA Tour.

Porter-King concluded her fifth year of service in February on the USGA Executive Committee. She serves on the USGA Junior Championship and Regional Associations Committee, and is co-founder and president of the Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association, and president of the Kaua'i Junior Golf Association.
