Hawaii Preparatory Academy, the Big Island co-educational boarding and day school (K-12), has announced three administrative appointments — including directors of development and admission:
BOB BONAR, former school assistant director of development, has been promoted to director, overseeing the school's annual capital and endowment fundraising. With a child at the school, he is a past president and current board member of HPA's 'Ohana Association. He also is a past counselor and director for organizations on O'ahu and the Big Island, including Waimea Elementary School, Hawaii Youth Services Network, Marimed Foundation, Family Peace Center, Chaminade University and Hawai'i Community College.
JOSHUA CLARK, most recently director of international studies and enrollment at Gould Academy in Maine, has been named director of admissions, including overseeing the financial aid process. He also is a past director of admission and director of financial aid at The Orme School in Arizona.
DAVID GRAHAM, a three-decade veteran of teaching and administration, has been named Upper School assistant principal. He was most recently dean of students and admissions director at Admiral Farragut Academy in Florida. He previously held coaching, teaching and dean of students positions at Selwyn School and Phillips Academy, Andover.
KELLEY NAKANO, a former project manger with Hasegawa Builders and Horita Development Co., has been named McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii area construction manager. He will oversee remodeling, rebuilding and construction of McDonald's here, and in Guam and Saipan.
ERIN GUERNSEY has been signed on as director of public relations for Waikiki's Cirque Hawaii, a theatrical production featuring acrobats, clowns, contortionists and aerialists from around the the world. The show opened in December at the renovated former IMAX Theatre venue on Seaside Avenue. Guernsey will oversee media relations, event coordination and marketing for the production. Previously, she served as account coordinator at Becker Communications Inc.
Attorney and state Rep. Alex Sonson D-35th, (Waipahu, Crestview), and WILLIAM WILSON, chief executive officer at Hawaiian Dredging Co. have joined the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center as volunteer board members. Also joining the center's management team are MARY ONEHA, formerly the center's director of case management and utilization, now director of quality and performance; and JOHN WILLIAMS, named director of health information technology. He was formerly information systems director for Bay Clinic on the Big Island.
CONNIE MITCHELL has joined The Institute for Human Services homeless shelter as executive director. Her career has included experience in mental-health nursing, pastoral work and a number of management capacities at Hawai'i State Hospital. She is also credited with establishing the state's first nurse-run rural mental health clinic in Ka'u, Big Island, in a state Department of Health and University of Hawai'i collaboration and was recognized for contributions resolving the U.S. Department's 14-year litigation against the state hospital. Mitchell is currently pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice and continues to serve as adjunct clinical faculty at the UH School of Nursing.
