ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Salt that oven spill

Advertiser Staff

Ever had a cherry pie turn your oven into an ooze-encrusted mess? "Tackle the gooey drips as soon as they happen," advises Tara Aronson in "Mrs. Clean Jeans' Housekeeping With Kids." Cover a spill with salt as soon as it hits the oven floor. When the oven cools, the hardened spills can be lifted with a spatula. Rub old messes with a pumice stone. Then wipe with a damp sponge.

SAVE THE PLANET

LOVE THE DEEP, BLUE SEA

We live on an island, so it's a no-brainer that we should take care of the ocean. Learn what you can do at Protecting Hawai'i's Ocean Resources, a free event 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve.

Guest speakers will present information on humpback whales, the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and marine debris. There also will be crafts and activities for the keiki. For more information: http://ha waiihumpbackwhale.noaa.gov, 397-2651, ext. 252, or 397-5840.
