The Tennessee Titans yesterday agreed to terms with defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona of Hawai'i.

Mahelona, one of two fifth-round picks, played at Tennessee, where he had seven sacks, 16 quarterback pressures and 26 1/2 tackles for loss.

Mahelona, of Kailua, Kona, started his college career at the University of Hawai'i before transferring to Orange Coast (Calif.) Junior College. He then played for the Volunteers for two years.

Safety Calvin Lowry, defensive back Cortland Finnegan, linebacker Stephen Tulloch, linebacker Spencer Toone and running back Quinton Ganther also agreed to deals.

Quarterback Vince Young, running back LenDale White, linebacker Terna Nande and receiver Jonathan Orr are unsigned.

JUSTICE SIGNS DEAL

Second-round draft pick Winston Justice signed a four-year contract with Philadelphia yesterday.

Justice, a 6-foot-6, 319-pound tackle, started 36 games at USC.

Defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley, who was the 14th pick in the first round, is the Eagles only unsigned draft pick.

DOCTOR SENTENCED

The doctor who pleaded guilty to conspiring to illegally prescribe steroids to several Carolina Panthers was sentenced in Columbia, S.C., yesterday to one year and one day in prison.

Dr. James Shortt pleaded guilty in March to one federal count of conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and human growth hormone. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped 42 other counts against Shortt.

Chief U.S. District Judge Joe Anderson ordered Shortt to pay the minimum fine, $500, and a $100 special assessment.
