ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Get marooned for Hula's 32nd

Advertiser Staff

Happy 32nd birthday, Hula's Bar & Lei Stand! Honolulu's iconic, long-living gay nightclub celebrates another year of allinclusive partying and shirtless bartenders tonight with a Treasure Island theme party. Imagine "Pirates of the Caribbean" if Capt. Jack Sparrow came out of Davy Jones's locker completely and you get the idea. Dress up, and arrive anytime from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. to see how the project-crazy folk at Hula's went spectacularly overboard with this year's theme. Free sushi at 8 p.m., just because. 923-0669, www.hulas.com.

CITY LIFE

HONOLULU NO. 5 ON CHILL INDEX

How does Honolulu stack up against other U.S. cities when it comes to nightlife, youth and I-wanna-be-outside weather? According to Bailey's unscientific Chill Index, in conjunction with Sperling's BestPlaces, it's the fifth best place to hang out among medium-size U.S. metropolises. It comes behind Colorado Springs, Colo.; Jersey City, N.J.; Omaha, Neb.; and Albuquerque, N.M. Omaha? Honolulu scored highest in the "eating out" category but lowest for cool coffee houses. FYI, the most chill mega-size city is Phoenix.

FINAL WORD

"Being a mother, I don't have time to go to clubs. So I fake club scenes in my videos to make it look like I'm getting out more."
