Teams win AYSO nationals

Three Hawai'i teams captured American Youth Soccer Organization national championships in Chicago earlier this month.

The Mililani girls under-16 team, Honolulu boys under-16 and La'ie girls under-12 all won titles at the AYSO National Games, which ran from July 13 through July 16.

The Mililani under-16 girls defeated San Bruno, Calif., 4-1 in the championship game. Mililani played eight games in four days, allowing only one goal.

In the boys under-16 championship game, Carlo Liquido scored in double overtime as the Poi Dogs defeated West Palm Beach, Fla., 1-0.

Rachelle Tailele scored in overtime as the La'ie girls under-12 defeated Newport Beach, Calif., for the title. Kahi Naeole scored in regulation. The team went 8-0 in the tournament.

The Kona boys under-12, Kapolei boys under-14 and 'Aiea girls under-19 were runners-up.

HOLOMUA TAKES SECOND OVER-50 TITLE IN ROW

Holomua, an over-50 women's soccer team, retained its national title at the Veteran's Cup Soccer Tournament.

Holomua defeated Virginia United, 3-0, in Sunday's championship in Wilmington, N.C.

Kiki Lau and Lynn Aurelius each notched a goal. Virginia United added an own goal.

REAL HAWAI'I FC GIRLS FALL IN UNDER-14 FINAL

Real Hawai'i FC under-14 girls fell in the seventh round of penalty kicks in yesterday's championship game of the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup V.

Real lost to New Jersey's PDA Fire after the regulation period was tied, 0-0, in Greensboro, N.C.

Real HFC defeated Albion SC (Calif.-South), 4-0, and tied NC CASL (N.C.), 0-0, and KUFC (Ill.), 1-1.

The Honolulu Soccer Club Bulls under-17 girls team finished the tournament 1-1-1. It defeated LWYSA (Wash.), 2-0, tied Ottawa Fury (Canada), 1-1, and lost to the Wildcats (N.J.), 2-0.

The Maui United Hurricanes, an under-16 boys team, will be playing the national tournament this weekend in Greensboro, N.C.
