SAT coach sets O'ahu classes

SAT preparation coach Raymond Karelitz will offer classes at 12 O'ahu high schools this summer.
Karelitz, an instructor and author of several SAT books, will present his "practice-and review" approach that he has shared with students across the country. The two-week course costs $220 and includes textbooks.

3 IN HAWAI'I GET AID FROM TOYOTA
Evan Alicuben of Waiakea High School on the Big Island, Xiaomeng Hu of Moanalua High School and Mary Rose Lansangan of 'Aiea High School are all recipients of the Toyota Community Scholarship worth $10,000 a year for four years.
Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. awarded 100 high school seniors across the country for their academic achievement and community service. The three Hawai'i recipients were chosen from a pool of nearly 9,000 students nationwide.
SCHULER HOMES HELPS 4 SCHOOLS
Makua Lani Elementary School, Ma'ili Elementary School, Barbers Point Elementary School and Makakilo Elementary School received $5,000 each from D.R. Horton-Schuler Homes for their participation in the reading incentive program, "Read to Win." The program, sponsored by the developer, awards schools money if students reach their reading goals.
The program required students to read nine books donated by D.R. Horton-Schuler Homes and write reports on each one. Makakilo Elementary reported a 99 percent participation rate and the other participating schools reported similar rates.
PUPPETS TIME AT MANOA LIBRARY
Manoa Public Library will hold Puppets Time with Christy Lipps at 11 a.m. tomorrow as a part of the library's Summer Reading Program. Lipps will perform a puppet show geared toward preschool-age children.

RESTAURANTS OFFER STUDENT AID
The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation is accepting applications for five multicultural scholarships worth $2,000.
The NRA program is available to undergraduate students who are Hispanic, African-American, Asian-American or Native American who are pursuing a degree in the restaurant or food service industry.

WAI'ALAE CHARTER TO REVIEW STATUS
Wai'alae Elementary Public Charter School will hold a public forum on the status of the school during a special meeting of the school's board from 5 to 6 p.m. on June 15. Parents and community members are invited to present testimony, both written or in person, about how the school is doing.
Written testimony may be submitted to Wai'alae Elementary Public Charter School, 1045 19th Ave., Honolulu HI 96818. The meeting will be in the school's library.
