Stacie Buell grew up in 'Aiea and graduated in 1990 from The Kamehameha Schools. As a fashion design student at Hono-lulu Community College, she modeled her own designs — including swimwear. After graduating, she became a North Shore swimwear designer for a few years, then a flight attendant. She married, moved to Colorado and is now the mother of two children, ages 5 and 2.
In September 2005, Buell launched a new company, Bubunja Baby, and a new product, the Snuggly Buggly — a hooded cape that comes in three weights: breezy, chilly and wintry. The product made an appearance in the Extra's Oscar Awards Lounge gift suite on Wednesday and Thursday, at the Meridien Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Buell designed an exclusive Snuggly Buggly in black faux suede with a champagne-velvet-lined hooded cape for the Oscars. The addition of children's products to the awards suite is clearly a nod to Hollywood's influential baby boom.
Although Island keiki may not need the warmth of the Snuggly Buggly, unless they live in upcountry Maui or at Volcano, those who might want to order it for family or friends in colder climates can find it at www.bubunjababy.com.
IHILANI INVITATION
For the fourth year, the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa is part of the Oscars. The oceanfront resort is offering a six-night stay to each of the presenters and performers who receive gift bags at the awards ceremony.
HALEKULANI SUITE
Also among the goodies in the Oscar bags for presenters and nominees is a luxury vacation gift package from the Halekulani. Valued in excess of $25,000, the package includes a four-night stay in the Vera Wang Suite, a signature treatment at SpaHalekulani and dinner for two at La Mer.
Even the biggest stars may have to wait in line for the Vera Wang Suite. A total of 125 packages are being presented by the Halekulani.
