Kalaheo alum playing in NCAA with Waves

Pepperdine freshman forward/guard Taylor Smith, a 2005 graduate of Kalaheo, is the lone women's basketball player from Hawai'i playing in the NCAA Tournament.
Pepperdine plays Oklahoma on Saturday in the opening round in Denver. The game is at 8 a.m. Hawai'i time and will be aired live on ESPN2.
Smith played in 26 of 30 games, averaging 3.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 9.8 minutes per game.
The Waves earned the West Coast Conference's automatic bid as the tournament champion. Pepperdine is making its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Washington University lost to Hope College, 92-89. Dacanay scored seven points wih three assists and two steals in the loss.
Menlo defeated Davenport, 45-43, in the opening-round of the NAIA Division II National Championships on Thursday.
Lee made a pair of free throws to help Menlo take the lead for good at 43-41 with just over a minute remaining. Two additional free throws by Riley seconds later pushed the lead to 45-41. Lee led Menlo with 13 points and Riley added four.
Tokoro averaged team-highs of 14.6 points and 4.7 assists per game.
She had a game-high 20 points in an 82-77 loss to Cal State Bakersfield in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Tournament, 82-77, on Friday.
SOFTBALL
She is batting .359 with three RBIs with four steals in five attempts. The No. 3 Volunteers are 22-0 as of Monday.
She then went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run, in a 10-0 win against Miami (Ohio) on Friday in the same tournament. She is batting .362 and tied for the team lead with four home runs and leads the squad with 21 RBIs.
Teammate Ashlyn Russell (Baldwin '02), a senior infielder, is batting .340 with 15 RBIs.
BASEBALL
SWIMMING
He was voted Pac-10 Swimmer of the Meet after leading Stanford to its 25th consecutive Pac-10 title on March 1 to 4.
Sun won the 100 backstroke (46.79, NCAA A qualifying standard), the 200 backstroke (1:41.17, NCAA A qualifying standard) for the second straight year, and won the 200 IM (1:44.49, NCAA A qualifying standard, third all-time at Stanford).
Sun also swam the opening leg on the 400 medley relay team that finished second as well as the opening leg on the 200 medley relay team that finished third.
The men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are March 23 to 25 in Atlanta.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Asuka tallied 10 kills in a 31-29, 26-30, 26-30, 30-24, 15-10 win Saturday and 11 in a 30-24, 28-30, 27-30, 36-34, 15-13 win Friday.
BYU junior opposite Jonathan Charette (Pearl City '03) had 12 kills in Saturday's match.
Playing for Missouri Valley College are Adam Tuifagu (Kamehameha '04), Justin Himori (Mililani), Chris Kaneko (Pearl City '03), David Hoke (Kamehameha '02 of Kailua) and Kapena Wong (Pearl City '03).
