Hawaiian to add evening flights

Hawaiian Airlines said it will add an extra evening flight for its Neighbor Island trips, just as the airline faces competition from a new low-cost interisland carrier.

The state's largest airline, said it will add an extra flight for its service from Honolulu to Hilo and Kona on the Big Island; Lihu'e, Kaua'i; and Kahului, Maui, starting June 9.

The new flights will depart from Honolulu between 7:25 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. and will return to Honolulu between 9:05 p.m. and 9:44 p.m.


SAFETY CHANGE FOR BICYCLE TOUR

Maui Downhill, an operator of guided bicycle tours starting atop Haleakala, said it has voluntarily suspended use of Baldwin Avenue because of safety concerns and is urging other operators to do the same.

Richard Goodenough, Maui Downhill president, said the last several miles of the 38-mile bike trip will be swapped for a van tour on Maui's agriculture and history.


FAMILY-FRIENDLY LISTING FOR RESORT

The Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay will be listed among the 10 best family-friendly resorts in the May issue of Child magazine.

Child magazine noted several family-oriented amenities at the Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay, including a complimentary kids' camp, toddler beds, and free meals for those 4 and under.


SHARPER IMAGE CUTS EXECS' PAY

SAN FRANCISCO — Sharper Image Corp. said yesterday its chairman and chief executive, Richard Thalheimer, will receive a voluntary 50 percent pay cut, followed by salary reductions of other executives, as part of the company's efforts to slash expenses.

The specialty retailer, which has lost its edge to rivals, also said it "reduced corporate office and distribution center headcount" by more than 20 percent, and store staff by 12 percent compared with a year ago.
