PHONE (ONLY) HOME

The Migo (VX1000) from Verizon Wireless pulls double duty: peace of mind for parents and a cool-looking gadget for kids.

The kid-friendly, compact, Shrek-shaped wireless phone is designed for tweens (ages 8 to 12) and features four parent programmable numbers (read: outgoing calls only to mom and dad) and a dedicated emergency key.

Available at Verizon Wireless stores; $49.99 (after a $30 mail-in rebate) with a two-year service agreement.
