UH win in softball nullified by NCAA
Advertiser Staff
The University of Hawai'i's 4-2 softball win over Nevada Saturday was nullified yesterday when the NCAA upheld a protest by Wolf Pack head coach Michelle Gardner.
Nevada catcher Katie Stith was ejected from the game before the bottom of the fourth inning because of a misinterpretation of the re-entry rule, the NCAA ruled.
The NCAA said "the player was wrongly ejected, and the protest of misapplication of the rule (illegal re-entry) is valid."
With the nullification, UH's record is now 25-19 overall and 7-6 in the Western Athletic Conference. Nevada is 24-28 and 7-7.
It is undetermined whether the game will be continued from the point of the protest, before the start of the WAC tournament.

Former Hawai'i quarterback Tim Chang passed for 141 yards and two touchdowns in the Rhein Fire's 27-24 victory over the Berlin Thunder in an NFL Europe game Saturday, according to the Fire's Web site.
Chang entered the game in the second period and made an immediate impact, hitting Kendrick Starling for a 52-yard gain before connecting with Chris Samp on a 30-yard TD reception.
Later in the quarter, Chang threw a 44-yard TD pass down the right sideline to Starling to make it 14-0. Chang's 15-yard pass to Starling set up the score.
Chang, a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, finished 4 of 6 with one interception.
Drew Henson, Rhein's starting quarterback, was 13 of 21 for 219 yards and a touchdown.
