THAT'S SHOE BIZ: Randl Ask, who is portraying Albin in Diamond Head Theatre's "La Cage aux Folles" (premiering May 19), joined artistic director John Rampage at the Nordstrom Rack's shoe rack a few days back. In three hours of searching for shoes — sizes 11 to 13 — the duo bought 42 pairs for men in the cast who'll be decked out in women's finery, from head to foot. Consequently, if you're a lady with lu'au feet, there might be a shortage of shoes for a spell. DHT doesn't plan to have a shoe clearance sale once the musical closes. ...
TRADE WINDS: Augie T, the radio and stand-up fave, did sold-out shows in Boston and Las Vegas. While shopping at Harvard Square, he ran into some SHOPO members who also happened to be in town. Augie, of Filipino and Portuguese descent, ventured to Cambridge after being told about the area's sizeable Portuguese population. "The Portuguese there call themselves Portagees, just like in Hawai'i," he said. "It was great to get in touch with my roots." ...
So you want to tap dance like Gene Kelly or, if you're a wee bit younger, like Shirley Temple? Jim Hutchison is offering 12-session tap classes for beginners and intermediate students between May 30 and July 7 at Ballet Hawai'i's Dole Cannery studio.
