Five University of Hawai'i softball players were named to All-Western Athletic Conference all-star teams during yesterday's WAC tournament banquet in Fresno, Calif.
First baseman Tyleen Tausaga, outfielder Kaulana Gould and pitcher Justine Smethurst were selected to the first team. Smethurst was chosen for the at-large position.
Outfielder Tanisha Milca and designated player Audrey Andrade were named to the second team.
Smethurst, Milca and Andrade are freshmen.
Tausaga, a junior, hit .378 with nine homers and 32 RBIs. Gould, a sophomore who also played catcher, hit .272 and had 13 assists. Smethurst was 14-10 with a 1.81 earned-run average. She pitched two perfect games.
Milca batted .331, and Andrade reached base 30 times in 23 starts.
"We're not worried about the awards," Smethurst said. "We've got a whole tournament coming up. We're playing for a chance to go to the (NCAA) Regionals. The Regionals are more important at the moment."
