Kailua native Danyelle Hedin was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Body Bar FILA Junior National Tournament in Colorado Springs on May 5 to 7.
Hedin successfully defended her title at the 121.25-pound weight class with a 6-0, 6-0 technical fall win over Samantha Schuman of Missouri Valley College in the finals.
Sadie Kaneda, a Roosevelt graduate, won the 105.75-division with a 2-1, 3-3 decision over Whitney Conder.
University High's Desiree Memea placed third at 175 pounds with a fall at 5:57 over Lacey Novinska.
Shyla Iokia, a Baldwin graduate, was fourth in the 121.25-pound division. Leann Barney beat her in a fall at three minutes in the third-place match.
Cherae Pascua, of Mililani, was fifth at 121.25 with a 5-2, 3-1 decision over Courtney Martell.
Champions from the FILA Junior Nationals will represent the USA at the FILA Junior World Championships for women in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on Aug. 29 to Sept. 3.
DANCE/DRILL TEAM
TITLES FOR DANCE JUNCTION HAWAI'I
Members of Dance Junction Hawai'i's Senior and Junior team were big winners in the American Dance/Drill Team Nationals, a national and international competition held March 24 and 25 in Dallas.
The Senior team won the national championship in the Senior Private studio lyrical, jazz and pom categories. It also was overall/best for a private studio.
The Senior team also ranked first out of 26 teams that participated in the international competition. They were first in the senior private studio lyrical and jazz category.
The Junior team won the national championship in the junior private studio lyrical category.
Lyndsey Arakawa won the national championship as a senior soloist, teammate Janell Nohara earned third runner-up and Marisa Takiguchi was first runner-up in the junior division.
Dance Junction Hawai'i was the only team from Hawai'i to compete in the event. Because of its performance, the team was invited to an international competition next summer in Tokyo, Japan.

ADVENTURE
MAUI WOMAN PART OF TV'S 'NEVADA PASSAGE'
A 43-year-old Maui woman is competing in "Nevada Passage," a syndicated reality TV show, featuring a variety of adventure competitions.
Pa'ia's Stephanie Weisel, who owns a golf and sports park, will team with Casey Fannin of Birmingham, Ala., in the competition against nine other coed teams.
Competitors are traveling more than 1,000 miles across Nevada and will compete in events that include recumbent bicycling, railroad handcar races, mountain biking, autocross racing, jet skiing and participating in a ranch-hand rodeo.
The competition is being filmed this week and will air starting in August.
