Ashley furniture store is closing

Ashley Furniture Homestore in the Waikele Shopping Center closed its doors yesterday and will hold a liquidation sale within the next two weeks, according to a recorded telephone message.
Customers who are awaiting delivery of merchandise have been mailed letters instructing them how to proceed, according to the recording, which is played when the store's telephone number is dialed. Customers who haven't received the letter by Nov. 15 are instructed to call 792-0053.
"Due to unfortunate economic circumstances, we are disappointed to inform you that the Ashley store is going out of business and closed its doors Nov. 10," according to the recording.
Details of the liquidation sale will be made available "at a later date," according to the recording.
VOLUNTEER TAX PREPARERS SOUGHT
The Hawaii Asset Building Coalition, the IRS and the AARP are issuing a call for volunteers who can help with free tax assistance to the elderly, non-English speakers and low-income people during the next tax season. Last year, more than 200 volunteers helped more than 5,000 taxpayers.
The volunteers will receive free training on preparation of basic individual tax returns. People who are interested should call the AARP at 955-5776 or the Hawaii Asset Building Coalition at 539-1503.
GUIDE TO HELP DISABLED READY
A guide for Hawai'i visitors with disabilities has been published by the Disability and Communication Board and is available online and in print.
The Hawaii Traveler Tips Guide is designed to assist visitors with information about accessibility issues at airports and on public transportation, as well as contact information for services.

KANE'OHE STORE BEING REOPENED
Safeway Inc. will hold a grand reopening for its Kane'ohe location this weekend, the latest of its stores in Hawai'i to be remodeled with earth tones and expanded selections of prepared and perishable food.
The remodeling is part of the Pleasanton, Calif.-based grocer's chain to remake stores as it faces greater competition from discounters, membership warehouse-clubs and upscale chains such as Whole Foods.
ISLAND SECURITY COMPANY BOUGHT
Safeguard Services Inc., a Honolulu-based security company, has been purchased by Securitas Security Services USA Inc. of Orange, Calif.
Securitas said the acquisition will help expand its office building services locally. Securitas said in a press statement that it has built up a portfolio of service contracts at hotels, the airport, condominiums and special events during its 45 years in Hawai'i.
