"Sipping Jetstreams: Adventure in Life," by filmmaker Taylor Steele and photographer Dustin Humphrey, is about exotic travel and killer cutbacks. It's based on Humphrey's coffee-table book by the same name — a collection of photos taken during a two-year trek around the world, mixing surf shots with pics from locations like Moroccan markets and the streets of Hong Kong. The film, making its Hawai'i debut this week, features top surfers including Kaua'i's Andy Irons (above), winner of last week's OP Pro contest, eight-time world champ Kelly Slater and surf icon Tom Curran. See it at 8:15 p.m. Monday at the Waimea Valley Audubon Center and 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the O Lounge. Receptions start at 6 p.m. A $10 donation benefits the Surfrider Foundation on O'ahu (www.surfrider.org /oahu) and the Defend Oahu Coalition (www.defendoahucoalition.org).

PAINT 'EM BLACK, YOU DEVILS

Hollywood celebs have discovered black nail polish, making it the most coveted shade among mere mortals. For the holidays, try combining black with champagne or gold — with one on the toes, the other on the fingers. Among the best blacks are Chanel's Black Satin, Lippmann Collection's Hit Me With Your Best Shot, OPI's Black Onyx and Jessica's Casablanca.

Manicurist Michele Lee of Honolulu Tan & Co. warns that it's important to use a high-quality base coat before applying black nail polish. Also: Black polish can be really hard to remove. Short nails are a must.

SLICK KICKS

On Friday, a limited-edition Gravis shoe, made in collaboration with street artist Slick — a Hawai'i boy who now lives and works in L.A. — will be released at Island Snow.

You've seen Slick's art in magazines, music videos and on album covers, notably "The Bizarre Ride to the Pharcyde." Slick signs shoes from 6 to 8 p.m. An afterparty at NextDoor, 34 N. Hotel St. in Chinatown, follows at 10 p.m.
