Jobe falls at Wailea

Rajeev Ram, of the United States, ousted Hawai'i's Ikaika Jobe, 6-2, 6-4, yesterday in a second-round singles match of the $50,000 Wailea Men's Challenger at the Wailea Tennis Club.

In another second-round match, Brendon Evans, of the United States, defeated third-seeded Australian Mark Philippoussis, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Matches continue today at 10 a.m.


BASKETBALL

BYUH IMPROVES TO 6-0

Lucas Alves scored 19 points, and Corey Nielson contributed 18 points and eight assists as 17th-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Dixie State, 78-72, last night at St. George, Utah.

Jermaine Odjegba added 16 points for the Seasiders (6-0).

MIYAJIMA SHOOTS 76

Maui's Shayna Miyajima shot a 4-over-par 76 yesterday in the opening round of the LPGA Tour's 90-hole final qualifying tournament at Daytona Beach, Fla.

Miyajima was in a tie for 113th in the 138-player field, nine strokes behind co-leaders Hye Jung Choi and Inkyung Kim of South Korea.

The top 15 players after 72 holes advance to the final round.
