Blaze destroys auto body shop

Fire destroyed an auto body shop near Honolulu Airport last night.
More than 30 firefighters battled the blaze.
The fire started about 8:30 p.m. at 2855 Ualena St. It was under control by 9:09 p.m., an HFD spokesman said. HFD Hazardous Materials teams were sent to dispose of chemicals at the site.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation, and firefighters did not have a damage estimate last night.
MOTORCYCLIST, 74, DIES AFTER CRASH
A 74-year-old Hilo man died yesterday after a motorcycle crash in Hamakua, Big Island police said.
The crash happened about 11:22 a.m. when the man, who was operating a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, lost control when he tried to avoid a group of motorcycles ahead of him.
The man died at North Hawaii Community Hospital at 12:36 p.m. His name was not released last night, pending notification of his family. Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
