CRANS-SUR-SIERRE, Switzerland — Nick Dougherty summed up Michelle Wie's impact on the European Masters.

"She has that 'wow factor' that Tiger (Woods) has right now," said Dougherty, who will tee it up with Wie today at the European Masters.

Wie will attempt to make the cut at a men's tournament for the second time in 10 tries.

"It's amazing that a 16-year-old girl has more effect than an Ernie Els or a Sergio Garcia on this tournament," said Dougherty, who along with Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano will play two rounds with Wie.

"It's brought massive attention. I don't think they've ever seen so many people here on a Wednesday (for the pro-am). But all in all, you weigh it up, I think she's a bonus for this tournament."

Dougherty, who has missed his last nine cuts, said his ego would survive if Wie beat him.

"That's golf," he said.

Dougherty and Wie share the same coach, David Leadbetter, who told him what to expect.

"From what I've seen of her playing and from what David has said about her, she's absolutely capable of making the cut," Dougherty said.
