The formerly subdued Flamingo has plans to follow Las Vegas' hip and sexy path. Last week, the resort announced that it will create a new look for 636 of its guest rooms and suites. In addition to new decor, the renovated rooms will feature wireless Internet access and 42-inch flat-screen hi-def TVs with built-in screens in the bathroom mirrors. At check-in, guests will receive a CD of rock songs specially compiled for the hotel. Last year the Flamingo opened the Margaritaville restaurant and bar and last month debuted a show featuring contemporary R&B star Toni Braxton. The room makeover is scheduled to be completed by February.
new eateries: Two trendy restaurants specializing in Asian cuisine have opened at center Strip. The Mirage's Japonais is a branch of the Chicago restaurant of the same name. Treasure Island's Social House replaces one of the Strip's long-running restaurants, Buccaneer Bay, and like its predecessor features great views of the Sirens show. It's a late-night place, open till 4 a.m.
NO LOBSTER: The Fremont casino's seafood buffet no longer serves its famous lobster claws. It's still a good one, though, with several hot and cold selections for $15.99 on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
