Gov. Linda Lingle has released $1 million for improvements and repairs to Laupahoehoe Pool.

The pool is used by students at Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School and by residents from Pepe'ekeo to Pa'auilo.

"As an avid swimmer, I know the value that a multi-use swimming pool can have for the community," Lingle said.

The money will be used for pool basin resurfacing, water filtration system repairs, reroofing and repairs to the pool house and replacement of lockers.

Plans call for the pool to close in November when construction is slated to begin.
